# CD/DVD Drive Not Recognised In Windows

date: 11 April 2008 read: ~1 min tags: Tech

Is your CD/DVD Drive missing in Windows?

Thinking of phoning tech support to get a new one?

Try this first it may just fix it. Some CD & DVD Burning software installs filters within the Windows registry.

You can delete the Upper and Lower Filters which cause this problem of the drive not being recognised or missing in My Computer.

Fix:

  1. Click the** Start** button, click** Run**, type** regedit** in the** Open** box, and then click** OK**.

  2. In Registry Editor, expand the following registry path:

  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class

  4. Under** Class**, click** {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}**

  5. In the right pane, right-click** UpperFilters**, and then click** Delete**.

  6. Click** Yes **when prompted to delete the registry value.

  7. In the right pane, right-click** LowerFilters**, and then click** Delete.**

  8. Click **Yes **when prompted to delete the registry value.

  9. Quit Registry Editor. To do this, click Exit on the File menu.

  10. Restart the computer.

Hope that helps!!!
