I did it! I set myself a challenge to create 30 videos in 30 days during November.
Vidvember – #vidvember

I had wanted to start this a few months back in September but life got in the way and I got busy with things. I really kept making excuses not to do it and I knew I had to get back in the game and get myself in front of people.
I’ve made a lot of videos online mostly screencast tutorials and some face to camera videos.
I would spend days testing how to get good quality videos with an iPhone 4 and 5. I tested different lighting kist, lighting environment, lighting different whiteboards with reflection problems however I’ve never really put everything I learned to use.
So I made the decision. Create the videos every day in November using my iPhone 6.
For a split second, I considered doing it in December trying to put it off another month but with vidvember sounded better than Vidcember.
During the end of October, I sat down and wrote a short list of topics I wanted to cover. I wanted to keep all of my videos under 10 minutes. Between 3 and 5 was the ideal length.
Armed with my draft list I typed out my videos into an Evernote Note. I then kept adding to it until I had around 20+ videos.
I had some lighting that I bought off eBay a few years back. The iPhone 6 I knew I could record good quality video and after seeing a lot of different styles of recording on YouTube I felt I was in a good position to start recording my own content.
I have the knowledge to share, I’ve been learning this stuff for years, it’s just a case of having the confidence to put it out on video and cover enough in a short time.
So the next step for me was to plan out how the videos might look.
Making The Video Intro & Outro
The hardest part was probably trying to choose a jingle for the start and end of each of my video.
I had to make a short intro clip with music and text. I researched lots of music on audio jungle and found a couple of images that I wanted for the intro and outro.
I found a clip on Audio Jungle that sounded upbeat few seconds at the end. The reason I wanted an upbeat ending is because I was using the ending as my intro music.

Next, I had to make my text fit with the short intro piece of music. Below you can see my intro in Screenflow over 5 tracks.

This is what I came up with.
With the intro and outro ready I had to build a new page on my website where I was going to promote each video.
There was one small problem… I was halfway through switching my site from WordPress to Squarespace.
I had been in the process of moving the site since mid-August so this really did give me a kick up the bum to get the site switch finished.
No Going Back
I made the leap, purchased Squarespace pointed my domain over and started cleaning up my older blog post.
My new blog was nearly ready, I built the new page for vidvember and hit record the day before to make the explainer video about #vidvember.
October 1st arrived, I publish my first introduction video to YouTube and made some public announcements about what I was starting.
Next, I went into my office, setup my iPhone and hit record for the first video. The ball was now rolling.
What I Learned
Publishing a video everyday on YouTube is quite a challenge but I’ve learned so much along this journey.
One of the main things about getting myself in front of people was learning how to generate new traffic and new leads.
It was like starting on a blank canvas. I haven’t published a new blog post or YouTube video for what feels like years.
It felt like starting from scratch.
I decided not to email my list. I wanted to see how much traffic I could generate by starting from scratch.
Using various techniques to try and gain viewers and sending people back to my own blog my traffic and page views started to grow. I created a lot of social media images, scheduled a lot of social media content and kept a consistent flow of social posts.
I Documented Everything
The best part of doing Vidvember is that I’ve documented everything like creating images, YouTube Thumbnails, testing tweets, equipment I’ve used and even social strategies I outsourced.

Here are some stats from starting from scratch.
Remember, I hadn’t published any new content to my blog in over a year! Also, I switch on Squarespace the day I started Vidvember.

I know these numbers are tiny but I’m happy with them. Give me a year and watch this grow.

I did consider continuing a daily vlog, I mean Casey Neistat has ended his vlog so I could bag some new followers 🙂
If I build a big enough audience maybe I could sell my YouTube business for $25m!!

I plan to go back over my videos, repurpose some of the content and test other marketing strategies to build up more views and share with you what I learn.
