In this short video I show my favourite plugin I use to backup my WordPress sites.
It will only take you a few minutes to download, install and run your first backup.
Depending on how big (MG/GB) your site is, it could take a minute or ten minutes to complete.
Once the backup process has run you can download your WordPress files in a zip folder and store the folder on a disc, another computer, Google Drive, Amazon S3 or any online storage service. You can even migrate your site to another hosting server as the backup folder contains everything including the WordPress database.
Try and get into the habit of taking regular backups of your site. Take backups before you upgrade WordPress, your theme framework or other plugins which contain lots of data (EG membership plugins).
In 2013 I had a total of 14 people contact me for help with WordPress backup related tasks. They included:
- Recovering their sites from being hacked
- Restoring data after they made changes
- Restoring their sites to an original state before they upgraded a new plugin.
I’ve now launched a new service where we support and manage WordPress sites for our clients – you can learn more at www.wpupdates.co.uk
It’s not nice seeing hours and hours of work wasted because the site owner never took a backup and their site got hacked or an employee trashed the site.
You saw how easy it was for me to take the backup so you have no excuses!
Please take a moment this weekend to backup your own site and store the backup folder somewhere safe.
Please post any comments or questions below. Maybe you use a different plugin? If so please share it.
